Assess Potential Professional Development Needs

Gather data to assess professional development needs for teachers prior to, and throughout the 2020-2021 school year, including on-going support sources.

How do we gather data to assess professional development needs for teachers throughout the school year?

How do we ensure equity in education, which includes each child and each teacher?

  • Ensure that each child has access to relevant and challenging academic experiences and educational resources necessary for success.

  • Ensure that each teacher has access to relevant and challenging professional development and resources.

  • Equity must remain at the forefront of short-term and long-term goals, responses, and supports.

How do we ensure focus on quality schools?

  • Ensure that the entire school is committed to educating and supporting students so they acquire the knowledge and skills needed for future success.

  • All working within the school should have a shared definition of future success for students as a shared understanding helps every child reach his or her goal.

Develop a Comprehensive, On-Going PD Plan

Create a comprehensive, on-going professional development plan to create sustainable change and professional growth.

How do we utilize the above needs assessment resources and plan a comprehensive PD plan that spans more than one school year?

How do we ensure equity in education, which includes each child and each teacher?

  • Ensure that each child has access to relevant and challenging academic experiences and educational resources necessary for success.

  • Ensure that each teacher has access to relevant and challenging professional development and resources.

  • The Ohio Department of Education has field specialists and professional development standards as well as courses in Ohio’s Learning Management System.

  • Many professional companies/organizations offer partnerships/subscriptions for professional learning.  Some potential professional development partnerships are available here.

  • As some professional learning opportunities become more available in an online setting, utilize the Online Professional Learning Quality Checklist to ensure teacher online professional learning is high-quality and meaningful.

How do we ensure that every teacher has high-quality instructional materials that free them to use their talents and passion to reach students?

  • Instructional materials alone are not the answer. For materials initiatives to be effective, educators need job-embedded professional learning grounded in the materials they use in their daily practice.
